Day 28: The 4th of July in New York City!

Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
Theres nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
These streets will make you feel brand new,
The lights will inspire you,
Lets here it for New York, New York, New York

(Alicia Keys and Jay Z)

The highlight of today were the fireworks. We had tickets on Circle Line. We left midtown at Pier 83, cruised down to Lady Liberty, then back up the river to about 70th Street. There were fire boats squirting red, white and blue water. There were countless police boats and coast guard boats and helicopters and fighter jets. We saw over 1000 policemen on the areas bordering the river.

They brought in six fireworks launching barges. For 30 minutes they fired more than 10,000 rounds into the sky, simultaneously from the six barges. When they were done it was definitely a "Spare the Air Day over the city!

New York does everything over the top.

Here are a few representative photos of the 'performance'.
