Linda has spent her last day of the school year in the classroom. Steve has successfully backfilled his job as Chief Medical Officer and will return from this trip to a different office for his part time county work.
So the decks are cleared.
The Porsche has been serviced and the oil changed: by the way... that means 9 new quarts of Mobil 1 "0-40W" oil. Didn't know you could make 'zero weight' oil.
Everything is organized in the closet and ready to go into the Porsche. Many of you have asked how we can fit much stuff. Here is the secret: The Boxster is a mid engine car. So there is a deep "bonnet" and a wide shallow "boot." So here is what fits (yes we have done the dry run):
- one small roll-aboard each (it's summer and we are light packers, well trained by overseas trips)
- one small cosmetic bag
- one book/map bag
- one computer bag
- one backpack: playing cards, dominos, cribbage board, books, kindle, passports (need these for Canada now), chargers.....
- one Coleman portable gas bbq
- one PicnicTime picnic basket with dishes, utensils, wine opener, wine glasses, winer bottle holder, lined cooler, cutting board and knives, dish soap, dish cloth, towel, etc
- 6 inch aluminum pot with two aluminum nesting bowls and lid
- Nikon D-90 camera with 28-55 and 75-300 lens with tripod
- 2 pillows, and.........
- a partridge and a pear tree (well ok, not this but really, everything else fits either in the bonnet or boot or behind the seats
Navigation will be by Magellan. Music by XM Radio. Email when we want it by my Verizon Droid, which also serves as back up for navigation (VZ Navigator) and for music (Pandora).
It is a reminder how drastically technology has changed since we last did anything like this in 1994.
On your mark..........
